Mississauga— The Ontario government is connecting more people to primary care and expanding access to French-language health care by investing over $2 million annually to support the Centre francophone du Grand Toronto (CFGT) which is one of nearly 200 teams across Ontario being funded through the province’s $3.4 billion Primary Care Action Plan. Once fully operational, the clinic will connect approximately 4,800 Francophone patients in Mississauga and Peel Region to team-based primary care, closer to home.

“Francophones across Ontario deserve access to high-quality services that reflect their needs and realities, including health care in French,” said Natalia Kusendova-Bashta, MPP for Mississauga Centre. “This investment will give thousands of Francophones in Mississauga and Peel access to high-quality care in French, closer to home, while strengthening the community services that support their health and well-being.”

The clinic will be located at 90 Burnhamthorpe Road West and is expected to open in early 2027. Its interprofessional team will include physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, therapists, registered dietitians, health promotion and education staff, community health workers and administrative staff. Its health services will be integrated with CFGT’s existing services in the region and will provide local, culturally adapted and integrated care focused on prevention, follow-up and the management of ongoing health needs.

“Our government is protecting Ontario’s health-care system by investing in new and expanded primary care teams in Ontario communities, including Mississauga, that will keep families healthier while relieving pressures on emergency departments,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “By supporting a new French-language primary care team in Mississauga, we are one step closer to connecting everyone in the province to high-quality primary care by 2029.”

While Ontario continues to lead the country with nearly 90 per cent of people connected to a primary care provider, the province has set clear goals to connect every person to primary care by 2029. Residents in Toronto and across Ontario can get connected to primary care by registering through Health Care Connect at Ontario.ca/healthcareconnect.

“Being able to explain your symptoms, ask your questions and understand the next steps in your own language is essential to taking care of your health,” said Estelle Courty Duchon, President and CEO of the Centre francophone du Grand Toronto. “With this new clinic, more Francophones in Peel will have access to a health-care team that knows them, understands their needs and supports them throughout their care journey.”

Through Your Health: A Plan for Connected and Convenient Care, the Ontario government continues to grow the province’s health care workforce and make it easier for people and their families to access high-quality care, closer to home.
